In Ms. Werner's and Mrs. McCaffrey's classes at B-L Middle School, students have been honing their green thumbs this year! They kicked off their school garden project in the Fall, following instructions from the Clemson Extension School and Community Gardening Team. From constructing raised beds to filling them using the "lasagna garden" method, students have been deeply involved in every step. They've sown seeds, nurtured transplants, and reaped the rewards at harvest time, all while gaining invaluable practical knowledge. Exploring the origins of food, mastering gardening techniques, and understanding the responsibilities of caring for living things have been key lessons. This year's crop roster boasts onions, kale, English peas, collards, lettuce, and radishes. #lexington3istheplacetobe #beapanther #pantherstrong

Another FANTASTIC and FUN enrichment week in Lexington Three is just about in the books! Our students have had the best time the past few days participating in a wide variety of camps including metal detecting camp, Lego camp, cooking with a good book camp, soccer camp, moving west camp and podcasting camp....just to name a few! Our enrichment weeks provide staff members with an opportunity to get to build even deeper relationships with our precious Panthers and expose them to a wide variety of extracurricular activities that they might not otherwise have an opportunity to experience. We also get the chance to help children who may need just a little bit of extra academic assistance. All in all, enrichment weeks are just one more way that we get to show some additional love to the children of the Batesburg-Leesville community. Visit our Facebook page for a ton of pics!

8th grade students in Mrs. Lindsay's science class at B-L Middle School have been working super hard the past few weeks on projects that answer the question "Can genetics save the world?" They were tasked with designing a GMO product that hasn't been invented yet that meets a global need. On Thursday, November 30th, they had to pitch their ideas to a group of pretend investors. (Similar to the tv show Shark Tank!) The end results left everyone speechless as students proposed some very creative ideas!

Our schools are rocking and rolling following our week-long Thanksgiving break! Over at B-L Middle School, students are enjoying having the SC Farm Bureau Agriculture Learning Lab at their school today. The Learning Lab teaches students about important South Carolina commodities and how many of them go from the field to our plates. The lessons are aligned to state learning standards, so students are able to apply math, science, English and social studies principles to agriculture.

The National Weather Service is forecasting that a line of severe thunderstorms will be passing through our area starting this afternoon (Monday, August 7th). Part of this forecast includes damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 to 70 miles per hour. These conditions could affect the safe operation of school buses as the South Carolina Department of Education does not allow buses to operate when wind gusts are greater than 40 miles per hour. As a result, Lexington Three will be dismissing all of its students one hour early today. Click to read more: https://www.lex3.org/article/1193230
