Summer 2020 Virtual Learning Opportunities

 

BLMS students, join us for Virtual Learning this summer!  

When: July 6 - July 30, 2020

Where:  online, from almost any place!

What: fun learning opportunities with BLMS teachers - check out the course descriptions below. The first 10-12 students per course to sign up will be accepted.  Everything is FREE and we will provide supplies.

Algebra Boot Camp (rising 8th grade Alg. 1 students)- Christy Richardson

  • Students will enhance their skills with algebraic equations and inequalities while reasoning with authentic, real-world applications in order to work more efficiently with the linear models in the Algebra 1 curriculum. 
  • Students will also review certain Pre-Algebra skills, such as exponent rules and conversions with rational numbers, as well as interpreting the meanings of coefficients, factors, terms, and expressions based on their real-world context in order to work more efficiently with linear, quadratic, and exponential models in the Algebra 1 curriculum. 

Cherlyn Anderson - Virtual Robotics (current 6th grade - 8th grade)

  • Students will participate in a virtual robotics camp via Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students will be able to check out a VEX IQ Robotics kit for the duration of the camp.
  • Activities will include:
    • building a basic Clawbot following specific instructions
    • Learning to “drive” the Clawbot using remote controls
    • Learning to code the Clawbot to run autonomously
    • Learning to code the Clawbot using sensors
    • Modifying the basic design to perform specific challenges

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling- Courtney Ingle (rising 6th graders)

  • Rising 6th graders will read and explore the world of witchcraft and wizardry through virtual discussions, writing prompts, and artistic representations.

Refugee by Alan Gratz - Kimberly Lawson (current 6th - 8th grades)

Current Events with Coach Prahst  (current 6th - 8th grades)


  • Students will read and explore current event topics using virtual meetings and Google Classroom resources. Students will be able to choose topics that interest them and have discussions using the Socratic Seminar methods.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee - Mrs. Clark  (current 7th - 8th grades)
