Read the novel and submit the formative assessment by August 23, 2019.

Copies of books are available at the BLMS library, Public Library, or students may purchase their own private copy of the text.

Summer Reading Formative Assessment: One-Pager

Students will complete a One-Pager for their novel.  

One-Pagers may be digital using any software/app of the student’s choice (Google Drawings, Piktochart, Canva, etc.)

OR

One-Pagers may be compiled on paper/poster board using collage methods and/or original artwork.  


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have two or more excerpts from the novel. These are passages that the students think are important to the theme of the book.
  • Must have graphic representation (original drawing, magazine picture, computer graphics, symbols, etc.). This should tie to the quotes chosen and to the novel as a whole.  
  • Must include a personal response - a connection, an interpretation, or commentary.
  • Include the title and author of the novel.
  • Fill the entire page.
  • Must use color.
  • Put your name in the lower right corner.
  • Each One-Pager should be accompanied by a 250-300 word explanation detailing how the the symbols, quotes, and aesthetics analyze either a character, theme, or motif of the novel.  

Due Dates and Submission Expectations: **All one-pagers and written explanations are due by August 23, 2019.

The one-pager is exemplary in its analysis. The excerpts and graphics chosen indicate significant events/ideas portrayed in the text. All elements of the one-pager are original, inventive, creative and form a cohesive analysis. The written explanation is clear, appropriate, and has few to no errors that do not interfere with meaning.

The one pager is proficient in its analysis. The excerpts and graphics chosen indicate some important events/ideas portrayed in the text. All elements of the one-pager are original, inventive, creative, and form a cohesive analysis. The written explanation is clear, appropriate, and has few errors that do not interfere with meaning.

.The one pager is decent in its analysis. The excerpts and graphics chosen indicate events/ideas portrayed in the text. Elements in the one-pager lack originality and/or creativity and/or do not form a cohesive whole. The written explanation is confusing, indicates lack of comprehension and/or has errors that interfere with meaning.

The one-pager lacks depth of analysis. Elements of the one-pager are missing or lacking. The written explanation does not indicate comprehension and/or there may be a multitude of errors that interfere with meaning.

*Assessments submitted that do not meet the minimum requirements according to the rubric will receive an Insufficient score (50/F).
